So Smart and So Tiny

My daughters had their 1 and 3 year old check ups today (one was a little late, the other a week or so early). My 3 year old is pretty average on height and weight, but she's smart! They only tested up to 3 years 11 months and she passed the whole way up and she's only 3 years and 2 months old. I'm pretty proud of her.

My little...and I do mean little...squirt has a big head and little everything else. Her head is in the 95th percentile. Not a surprise, my 3 year old always had a big head too. But the surprise is she's just under the 5th percentile for height and just over the 5th percentile for weight. She was a 9 pound newborn...how did she end up so small? She didn't quite double her weight in a year. They're not worried about her though. She definitely doesn't look like a failure to thrive baby or anything. She's just tiny all around. She's meeting all her developmental milestones and is so interested in food...that girl can eat!

I'm thinking the difference between them is, my older one was formula fed from 5 1/2 months on and didn't develop her physical milestones (crawling, walking) until later because she was too busy talking. She's always been verbally advanced. Where my baby is breastfed and she NEVER stops moving unless she's sleeping. She's creeping and about ready to walk and has been crawling forever. So that's got to be the difference.

Anyway, just a little growth and development update on my little beauties!

Sounds great! I have a nephew whose stats are very similar to your younger daughters. He eats all the time. He also started walking earlier than later.

So, I have my 3 yr old and 1 yr old appt's together next month. One will be a little late and the other early, just like you. Anywho. My almost 1 yr old has a ginormous head! Oh and I was gonna ask. . . what kind of things did they test your 3 yr old on? I'm just curious as I wanna see what I may expect. Although I know every Pediatrician is different. I still need to find one that I LOVE!

Logan's got a big head, too. Like, not even ON a percentile big for one or two of his appointments. :-) Joshua is a little more average (75th percentile or so).

And yeah -- I parented both my kids pretty much the same (Josh did get a LITTLE formula at the beginning while Logan got none) and they both develop differently anyway! :-) Hard to tell what's nature and what's nurture. I was always a big proponent for the "nurture" side until I had kids -- and realized that a lot of their personalities/skills/whatever are just hard-wired from day one (well, sooner, if you wanna know the truth!) ;-)

Glad they are both healthy! Yay for Kenzie for doing so well at her exam (Logan SCREAMED through his three-year!)
