As a child I didn't give the environment a second thought. It was a time when fast food hamburgers came in Styrofoam boxes and bringing your own bags to the grocery store just didn't happen. But as time goes on so does progress and the awareness of taking care of the environment is a big part of that progress. The folks over at 3M, makers of Post-it notes, have taken some responsibility to make their popular notes more environmentally friendly. Their Post-It products carrying the recycled label contain at least 30% post-consumer content. You can get them in traditional colors and sizes as well as in the Super Sticky style which comes in vibrant Tropical Colors and soothing Nature's Hues.
I no longer work outside the home, so I haven't used Post-it's quite as much as I used to. But I find them handy for making quick notes in my planner, creating a grocery list or leaving a note for someone on our front door. I've also used them for moving purposes. They make it easy to label items for storage or home so you don't end up carting things in and out of your new place unnecessarily.
Post-It brand has shown their commitment to corporate social responsibility, as proof they've achieved the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Chain-of-Custody Certification for all Post-it Not and Post-it easel products that ship out of 3M facilities in the US. The May 2009 press release from Post-it has this to say:
Chain-of-custody certification means a company has a tracking system in place that identifies the amount of certified, uncertified and recycled content in the forest products it buys, uses or sells. With more than 160 million acres (65 million hectares) of certified forests across North America, the SFI sustainable forestry certification program is one of the largest in the world, with a standard based on principles and measures that promote responsible environmental behavior and sound forest management, including measures to protect water quality, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, species at risk and forests with exceptional conservation value.
This all goes to show that 3M cares about the environment and has made changes that help it's consumers make environmentally friendly choices as well. Thanks 3M for sending me the pictures Post-its to try out for myself!
