We spent ours painting and getting the house ready to move in. This is actually a picture of me as we put the first bit of paint on the walls. It's feeling so much more like a home now. No more renter's white! And even more than that, no more so-beyond-dirty-they'll-never-look-clean walls! The old owners had to be the most disgusting people ever!!! The dirty, junk and grime in this place is hideous! Who lives like that??? Ick!
We have a ton more work to do. But we made a major dent in the painting and a friend came over and installed two new ceiling fan/lights (one in the living room, the other in the master bedroom). So excited! There's actually a light in the living room now. Yay! And whoever thought it was awesome that living rooms shouldn't have lights is a friggin' moron! Why don't living rooms have lights? Was this a style at one point? Why? Why? Why?

So excited for you! You have motivated me to the point that after 20 years of renting, we are going to look at a house tomorrow!! EEK!
Funny how all that back breaking labor is fun when it's for something so great! That's very exciting, how long till move-in?
Oh I wanted so bad to do the same thing this weekend but I couldn't get DH to agree. I'm sick of white walls and need a change. What color did you use ? I'm hoping to go with a buckskin color !
Good luck with all your projects and moving. The color you are paint looks good and so nice and warm.
You know I am thinking it is a conspiracy. I moved in here and had to buy floor lamps for my living room because there was no light fixture on the ceiling.
Things that make you got WTF were they thinking lol.
Every modern house we've lived in hasn't had a ceiling fixture for a light in the living room, but has had one outlet attached to the light switch so you could turn a lamp on and off with the switch. Highly annoying when you forget which outlet goes to the switch.
StaceyC4 - Good luck!!!!!!! This is a great time to buy, prices are generally lower than usual and there's that whole $8K tax rebate (if you're in the US).
Buggys - We're planning to move in on the 19th, but technically have until the 23rd to be out of our current place. :)
lisa - The color we used is technically called Lyndhurst Timber. It's a Valspar color from Lowe's. I don't think it's very descriptive of the color. But it's a nice warm brown that isn't too dark or too light. Love it! We're using it in the living room, hallways and guest bedroom. :)
B Boys Mom - Thanks!
Joe Cheray - I know...I swear no builder is thinking when they don't put a light in the living room.
Amanda - We don't have a light in our current living room either. We're supposed to have an outlet that works on a switch...but it's broken. *rolls eyes*
So, is it official? Are you in?! Yay!!! Congrats girl! You are officially a NEW HOME OWNER!!! Woo Hoo! And, you're already painting walls making it your own. Fabulous!
Yay!! It's nice to have your own place.
Our living room doesn't have a light either. Seriously, WTH?
A new coat of paint on the walls makes all the difference. The house we were renting before we bought our house was all gray! It drove me crazy! No light in the living room would drive me batty too. My husband finally fixed our dining room light last weekend. I hate being in the dark and using puny lamps!
That's something I've never understood... I've hardly ever seen a living room with lights installed in the ceiling! We had to have special ones put in our house when we had it built to shine on artwork above the fireplace, but other than that, they didn't offer a light either. Strange.
