This is a little embarrassing to admit, but we don't always have the best oral care habits. Don't get me wrong, we brush our teeth, we're not completely disgusting. But often I realize my daughter is out the door and on the school bus without brushing them in the morning. Granted, she'd just brushed them before bed...but then she slept for several hours then woke up and ate breakfast. So it is kind of icky. Sigh... Sadly it doesn't get much better with my four year old. She claims to like brushing her teeth. She's constantly playing with her toothbrush and toothpaste, but honestly, she's NOT good at brushing her teeth and it's like WWIII trying to get her to do it correctly. My husband is better, he even uses mouthwash. I struggle with mouthwash. I have a unique situation in my mouth, my tongue is full of little splits. It's genetic and quite honestly, it sucks! Anything too spicy hurts when it gets in the splits, and that includes most mouthwashes. And don't get me started on flossing...we all fail!So there it is, the good, the bad and the ugly. We need improvement, badly. Thanks to Mom Central and Listerine we're going to try something new. In the next week or so a package will arrive with oral care products so we can take the Listerine Oral Care Challenge. This is great timing with the holidays upon us and all the sweets that abound. It may seem harmless, but pediatric oral disease is the #1 chronic childhood illness. This challenge, created by Listerine and Reach for those ages 6 and up (so my oldest daughter, my husband and me), will help us establish a good routine for our girls so they don't have to become a part of that statistic. "To complete the challenge, kids, alongside their parents, have to brush, floss and rinse every day, twice a day for two weeks-a key step in building a strong oral care foundation."
I'll be keeping you all posted on how we do with this challenge and what we think of the products, so stay tuned!
