Home for Christmas by Jan Brett (for ages 3-5, $17.99)
In what is sure to become a perennial favorite, bestselling author Jan Brett weaves the holiday tale of a wild little troll who runs away from home. With so many chores to be done at home, Rollo tries living with Various Woodland animals, but he finds out that there is no place like home on Christmas.
My favorite is kind of the "odd man out" in this collection. It's not a hardcover book and it's the least expensive one on the list. But it's the one that brings me back to my childhood. It's Mr. Men: 12 Days of Christmas by Roger Hargraves. I loved the Mr. Men and Little Miss books when I was a kid. I often checked them out at my elementary school library and had a few at home as well. I love that my kids get to enjoy this book, in addition to the 2 previous Mr/Miss Christmas books we own. Listen to the Silent Night by Dandi Daley Mackall is beautifully illustrated and focuses on the birth of baby Jesus and the real meaning behind this holiday season (at least for Christians). A Christmas Tree for Pyn by Olivier Dunrea is a sweet story, one I love because I think of my own sweet daughters and their daddy...although my husband is NOT the rough mountain man that Pyn's father is.
I said it before and I'll say it again, these books would be a great addition to your book collection. And they would definitely make great holiday gifts for young children.
