I've been "blessed" with the world's worst teeth. I'm not kidding, it sometimes seems all I have to do is look at a piece of candy and I form a cavity. It's so unfair, I brush and brush and brush. I shudder to think what my teeth would be like if I didn't!On top of brushing I'm also frugal, so when I was offered the opportunity to test out a new toothpaste from Crest Pro Health I jumped at the offer! This is a very minty paste that left my mouth feeling very clean. My only complaint is it's a paste and not a gel. We all have our preferences and for some of you I'm sure this is a positive.
Part of brushing is to feel clean and get the gunk off. But do you know exactly what that "gunk" is? It's not just food film, oh no, part of it is plaque bacteria! Ew, ew, ew! Did I say "ew?" EW!!!! Just thinking about that makes me want to go brush again...and again. This plaque bacteria can cause gingivitis and even worse...periodontitis, which can lead to more serious problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes and pre-term birth. All from your mouth? Yep!
Here are some every day tips from Dental Hygienist Amy Hazlewood:· Give your mouth the time it deserves: Spend at least two minutes brushing, which should include 30 seconds brushing each section of your mouth (upper right, upper left, lower right and lower left), both morning and night.
· Protect against plaque:Plaque, a sticky film of bacteria, can often lead to other dental issues such as gingivitis and tooth decay. Use toothpaste, such as Crest Pro-Health Clinical Gum Protection in Invigorating Clean Mint, to help inhibit gingivitis-causing bacteria.
· Know the signs: One in two American adults has gingivitis, but many don’t recognize the symptoms. Symptoms include gums that are swollen, red and bleed easily during brushing or flossing.
Kinda makes you want to call your dentist and schedule a cleaning right now, huh?
Before you make that call, or after, I'll wait...you back? Ok, you might want to check out the Crest Pro Health Invigorating Clean Mouth Rinse I got to test out too. It's a bit strong, but I'm a wuss. My mouth definitely feels clean after using it. I feel like it's helping me have better oral health. I guess time will tell!
